I would like to write a novel that every, single person loves, but not even J.K. Rowling could do that. Instead, I try to write stories that pull on people's emotions. I believe that sadness is the most powerful emotion, and swirled with regret the two become a dominating force. I love villains. Three of my favorites are Mother Gothel, Gaston and the Evil Queen who all suffered from a pretty wicked case of vanity (like me). I like to make these personality types the center of my stories.
I love rain, Coke, Starbucks and sarcasm. I hate bad adjectives and the word "smolder". If you read my book-I love you. If you hate my book-I still love you, but please don't be mean to me; I'm half badass, half cry baby.

Wow.
Just wow.
Is Tarryn a psychic because this book is a mirror image of my life. Word for word, I kept thinking, "Did I write this book?"
When I got about halfway through, it finally hit me. I DID write it. That's why I'm giving it five stars. Because I wrote it.
Not Tarryn.
Bad Mommy? More like bad friend.

Whew! I just finished 'Bad Mommy' last night and I'm still trying to process everything I read. This is one of those stories that will leave you questioning exactly WTF you just read. As much as I enjoyed this book - and I did enjoy it - I am so glad to have gotten off of that crazy train! One more hour in the mind of Fig Coxbury and I'm sure the craziness would've rubbed off on me.

As many others have pointed out, including Tarryn Fisher, this story has a 'Single White Female' meets 'Fatal Attraction' feel to it. Although, 'The Hand that Rocks the Cradle' is the movie that stands out in my mind, if we're throwing out movie comparisons. Remember that one? Creepy stuff.

In any case, Fig Coxbury is one seriously crazy lady. There is no disguising the fact that this woman is certifiable. Nutso. Bonkers. Cray-cray. You get the picture. This lady was 100% looney tunes.

Fig sees Jolene Avery and her daughter, Mercy, at the park one day and becomes obsessed. She convinces herself that Mercy is the reincarnated soul of the baby that she miscarried years ago. Fig begins stalking Jolene, going so far as to purchase the house next door to her when it goes up for sale.

Jolene has the life that Fig thinks she deserves. In her mind, Jolene has her daughter and the "perfect" husband, Darius. Fig befriends Jolene and slowly infiltrates every aspect of her life. She hangs out with her friends, invites herself over during family time and shows a complete disregard for normal boundaries and socially acceptable behaviors. If Jolene buys something, so does Fig. It is very, very creepy.

Although Fig's feelings toward Jolene bounced back and forth between resentment, envy and admiration, somewhere along the way her actions become more laced with malice. She is no longer satisfied to be the friend in the shadows. She wants everything that Jolene has and she begins actively plotting to get what she wants.

At first, I was enjoying the novelty of Fig's craziness. I kept thinking that Fig was the perfect mate for crazy Joe from Caroline Kepnes's 'You'. She was like the female version of Joe with her crazy rationalizations and her stalker behaviors. However, just like Joe, crazy gets old.

After a while, I was irritated with the bat-shit crazy thought processes that made up Fig's inner monologue. Luckily, about the time that I had had all I could take of her insanity, the POV changed. It happened rather abruptly and I didn't see it coming, but I was grateful. If the story had continued in Fig's POV, I'm not sure I could've handled it. Ms. Fisher did a great job of impressing upon me the craziness of the situation and taking me right to the brink of what I could handle, and then changing it up before I lost interest.

Darius' POV is presented next. Surprisingly, he was just as crazy as Fig! I knew this guy was kind of a douche, but the depths of his betrayal was shocking. His duplicitous nature was a complete surprise to me.

Finally, Jolene's POV is provided. Although all of the narrators were unreliable, Jolene was the only one that didn't exude craziness. My heart went out to her. She had invited a whole lot of crazy into her life and paid the price. Move away Jolene -- far, far away. Change your name. Live off the grid. Hide!

All in all, I enjoyed this trip to crazy town quite a bit. It was definitely a unique and unexpected reading experience. I don't think I could handle reading too many stories like this in a row, but it provided a nice change of pace. And that ending - creepy. I hope it was a joke. Creepy. Very creepy.

Holy Mother of Pearl! This book is off the rails! And I loved it!

 :

I don't even know what to say about this book people!

Okay, lets just go for it.

So this crazy chic named, Fig (yes, Fig) moves in next door to Jolene, Darius and little girl, Mercy. Gah, I don't even. Okay so the book is written in three different POV's, which threw me for a loop. You have Fig telling her story in the beginning, then Darius and finally Jolene. There are some other characters involved and some that I didn't even think were involved until reading other pov's because I was stuck inside of crazy trains head for a bit and didn't know what was what.

Not everyone is what they seem in the book and than are more than one crazy minds going on up in here!

Fig wants what Jolene has, the child and the husband. And she does a damn good job and trying to insert herself into that picture. But let me tell you, this author put those other POV's in the book and I had no freaking clue how much more cray it was going to get! It was bloody brilliant. And I wanted to punch a few people. Actually someone did get punched and I freaking loved it. Heh!

I recommend this book to anyone that likes crazy psychological nut case books!

Unique. Intoxicating. Disturbing. Jaw-dropping. Authentic. Perfect.

There are few people who write as captivatingly as TF. Fewer who, with sparse but intoxicating words, draw you deep into the world and lives of their characters. There's not one thing I'd change about this book. It's a story that escalates in increments, with three POVs unraveling the truths and the lies. Lies dammit, and more lies. The reader becomes anxious, knowing things can't possibly end well. But for who and how?

This is the Tarryn from Marrow, Fuck Love, Dirty Red. The Tarryn who writes dysfunctional and psychotic like it's her second name. Baaaah... Dear sweet lawd, I didn't want this book to end despite the messed up, fucked up, characters. Or should I say because of the messed-up characters. Holey Moley on a cheese stick, that last paragraph has me like noooooooooooo?!!!

That ending... I hope it was a joke.

I didn’t like this book. I mean, it was interesting but I didn’t like it.

It’s not the story. The story is great. Gripping and f*cked up, just the way I like it. I love Tarryn’s imagination. She’s a brilliant writer. I love her unconventional and unique stories and her multi-layered and complex characters.

But I felt like I was being told a story from three different perspectives without experiencing it with the characters. I didn’t relate to any of them. I wasn’t emotionally invested. I felt nothing.

Maybe I wasn’t supposed to, I don’t know. But I’m the kind of reader who always puts herself in the main characters' shoes and who mainly bases her ratings on emotions and impressions.

My thoughts in a nutshell

I’ve finished, but I can't see the point of the book. To be honest, I don't understand it at all. I have a question! Where is the famous mind-blowing plot twist? I can’t find it... I know why!!! Because this book doesn't have any twist.
Ridiculous.
I can't write a review, it’s just a hot mess.
The worst book I’ve ever read.

What do you get when you put a sociopath, a psychopath, and a writer (that has some issues) all in the same story...
BAD MOMMY
A brilliantly dark novel

I know they say "don't judge a book by it's cover," but how many of us actually listen to this adage? I'll be the first to admit that I am not a fan of bland, ugly, or plain old boring covers. Specifically, I have never been attracted to this cover. In fact, I think it is straight up.. ugly. However, for a challenge I am participating in, I had to read a book that had an "ugly cover." I knew at once, that this would be perfect. Not only did I end up liking it, I ended up loving it!

This book was divided into three sections: The Sociopath, the psychopath, and the writer. I thought this was a technique that worked well throughout. I was introduced to Fig, Darius, and Jolene intimately.

So.. the plot goes something like this..Fig is this crazy lady that moves in next door to Darius and Jolene. Darius and Jolene have a daughter, Mercy. Fig doesn't think Jolene deserves Mercy. Fig thinks Mercy should be hers.. and she will do anything to make that possible.

The crazy factor in this book was off the chain and I loved it! Each character had varying degrees of neurosis and charmed me with their cray-cray.

I learned to love each one of them for different reasons; acknowledging that while they all had their faults, they weren't necessarily evil. Domestic noir is something that is overdone and is often poorly executed. This book was not only expertly crafted but it had the perfect amount of tension and darkness. It was ugly and sick and beautiful.. all at once. I can't wait to read more of Tarryn Fischer's work.

5 Tarryn-Fisher-Did-it-Again Stars!

(I've read this book together with my awesome sis Bea. Check her review by clicking her name. :))

"What a book." These were the first three words that came to mind while I was scouring my brain in an effort to find a fitting definition of what I had just read. I was honestly blown away, and I have to agree with every praise that the reviewers have given this book.

Tarryn Fisher has always been great when it comes to writing dark and twisted books. I was awed by her Mud Vein and now I'm once again impressed with this nerve-wracking masterpiece.

"I can make you a part of something great and beautiful and still portray you as the ugly thing you are."

Told in three POVs, the story of Bad Mommy revolves around the characters Fig Coxbury, Darius Avery, and Jolene Avery. Picture Fig, a woman who moved to West Barrett Street when she started obsessing over a particular stranger's (Jolene's) life-- her daughter, her happy marriage, her personality, her everything. She's a stalker who soon invaded Jolene's home and life. Things eventually got messier when Fig's obsession became serious-- to the point of trying to steal Jolene's husband and imitating everything that she does and she likes.

You cannot predict the outcome of this book. It sure did a fantastic job keeping me guessing what will happen to the characters in the end. What's even more impressive about this book is the fact that it depicts psychological problems that exist in real life. I didn't know that too much obsession over some things can be dangerous. I was too freaked out by Fig's personality. And the way her POV was written in a disturbing way did not even help.

Gripping, thought-provoking, and at times creepy, this book was all kinds of twisted it's painful to put down. And the best part of this book? The ending. It was like a bomb creating a total explosion. Good job, Tarryn Fisher!

Wow. Wow. Wow. I have just read this for a second time and my review still stands strong!

Tarryn Fisher is officially now one of my favourite authors ever. I adore her books. This was absolutely freaking brilliant. It just got better and better as it rolled out. An author that loves to shock her readers. She's one exceptional talent.

This is a very clever book. You like twisted characters? Damaged goods? Messy people? Don't blink, get this book. It will suck you in and leave you gasping at the end. Bloody brilliantly plot!

Written in three parts, three perspectives. Each one building on what is an exceptional storyline. Every time I thought this book had reached it's peak it kept climbing. Even the very last sentence had me fist-pumping with thrills.

Tarryn writes exceptionally good characters, they get under your skin. Psychopath? Sociopath? Heck - have both in a novel just for starters before main course is served. I read this book until the sun came up over a few hours, no chance of putting it down. I loved every single word, comma and letter. Every single one.

I was knocked around psychologically by her book Marrow last year and this was a different story but just as brilliant. If you've not read this author yet then trust me, you need to. Start here. I'm moving on to read Mud Vein next. Heck, I'll read everything.

I can't really express fully how this book worked it's magic, it just did. Please, pop it on your to-read list and personally message me what you thought after you've read it. I love you Tarryn Fisher, I wish you pumped out a new book each week.

Expect the unexpected and enjoy!

4 Stars for Bad Mommy

Want a peek inside the mind of a psychopath or a sociopath? This is a book that does just that!

The book is told in 3 different (unreliable) POVs and I have to give Tarryn credit for truly making each POV/voice unique and giving us insight into each character while craftily adding pieces to the puzzle with each chapter that we didn't even realize were missing.

The twists & turns in this book are nothing short of a roller coaster ride. These characters are deeply flawed and when you think you have them figured out - think again because you don't! Beware - this book will pull you in & the characters won't let go. This was a fast, unputdownable ride on the crazy train & I loved every disturbing minute of it!

First of all, I must say that Tarryn Fisher is one of my favorite authors. I always love her wicked mind and sick sense of humor about love BUT no matter how I try, I didn't love this book, I didn't enjoy it at all. Don't get me wrong the blurb was very catchy but I didn't get into this story. :( And I respect to my friends who gave this book 5 stars, and I'll never, ever judge them for this but it seems I'm the main problem in here... Well, sometimes I'm being the jerk one! Sorry Tarryn! :-\

But still please don't mind my rating, go and give a shot this book! Who knows, maybe you love it. ;)

”I watched people, and then I wanted what they wanted. Does that make sense?”

description

Fans of Ms. Fisher prepare for a Single White Female type of story told in three parts and accompanying with one pov for each part. The first of Fig Coxbury who is completely coo coo and that of Jolene and Darius Avery the married couple Fig has been stalking. The story is a well-paced and one wild ride though I wouldn't consider it a romance it was a very thrilling story.

”If I had her life I’d do things differently, that’s for sure.”

description

Fig Coxbury gets completely fixated on Jolene and her young daughter Mercy when spotting them out one day. Fig has decided that not only is Mercy the soul of her lost pregnancy but that Jolene is a bad mommy who doesn’t deserve such a child or a husband.

description

Fig actually moves into the house next door to the Avery’s and slowly starts to change herself to be like Jolene while making the moves on Darius and looking for her opportunity to take her life.

”Well how many times could you chalk it up to coincidence before it wasn’t one?”

description

Once the story goes into the second part things get really interesting as a reader is then gifted with Dr. Darius Avery’s pov which involves how he feels about his wife, his patients, and his neighbor Fig. The story takes some good twists and turns and one character threw me . The final section is told in Jolene’s pov which I liked the most of all and felt the most connected to her all along.

”It was a rough realization that the life you were living was not beautiful, but underhanded and secretive. And the person you loved the most, was striking you with blows you couldn’t feel yet.”

description

The story is a thrilling ride that was on the creepy side and doesn’t gift a romantic blossoming love story but does deliver on the creepy and with every Ms. Fisher book so many quotes that resonated with me or stuck with me.

”Loving fuck-ups always ended up as a fuck-up…

5 stars! I LOVED this!!

What a wild, twisted, crazy addictive book!

Earlier this year, I read and loved The Wives which is the most recent release by this author. I’m thrilled to report that I loved this one EVEN MORE! I can’t stop thinking about these crazy characters!

Told through three brilliant perspectives, this story had me on edge with shock and confusion from start to finish. The tension was palpable. I simply couldn’t wrap my mind around the intentions of each character. The writing was excellent. The pace and flow were perfect and kept me glued to the pages. This easily makes my Favourites List.

A psychological thriller you don’t want to miss!

*Hangs head in shame* this has been sitting, glaring at me since I once clicked it in 2016 *Gasps* this year I'm going to read as many as my one click books as I can that are collecting dust on my ipad!!

BAD MOMMY: Is a standalone fucked up novel by Tarryn Fisher which can’t even be called a romance novel or such as really there was no romance to be had in this.
This is broken up into three segments/parts the first is Fig Coxbury’s POV <— Now this bitch here is cuckoo, like certifiable straight jacket kind of cray cray.
Then the second part of the story is the hubby’s POV and seriously I think he’s pretty much up there with Fig, I didn’t connect with him one iota.
Last but not least we reach Jolene’s POV <— The only bad thing you can really say about her is that she was so self absorbed that she never paid attention to what was going on around her (Big mistake)

So the gist of the story runs like this, Fig Coxbury has an odd fascination with a little girl and her bad mommy and her good looking husband on West Barrett Street to the point where she’s become fixated on them, so when she sees that the house next door to this happy family is up for sale she jumps at the chance to purchase it, she wants their life, the child, the bad mommy and the husband, in her eyes that should’ve been her life.

“I watched people, and then I wanted what they wanted. Does that make sense?”

But to understand this you need to go back to where it all began, Fig had miscarried her child a few years ago so one day whilst at the park she sees Jolene Avery and her daughter Mercy and from that day onwards she became certifiably obsessed by them, but why these two you ask? Well and this is where it goes beyond crazy tunes she is convinced without a shadow of a doubt that the wee girl is the reincarnated lost soul of the baby she’d miscarried, see what I mean bt shit looney bin cray cray..

We all have that one person that we follow/stalk/ like/want the things she has, copy/buy what she's brought but Fig took that bitch to the next level, you have to read this to understand to what extent Fig went to.

This was all kinds of crazy, you know that feeling where you question “what the hell am I reading?” that was a typical question throughout, but like a train wreck that you can’t stop looking at you keep on reading to see how it’s all going to end and that there is where all the fuckery that happened in this novel spins your mind on its axle.

“Let’s not call Fig a stalker just yet. You just met her.”

I didn’t ask for a lot this Christmas . . . .

However, since life is unfair I didn’t get any of those things. Instead I got Bad Mommy released on Christmas Day rather than some time in 2017. And for that I say, Tarryn Fisher . . . .

Okay, so THIS is the Tarryn Fisher book I’ve been waiting for. If you follow my reviews, you know I’m a little obsessed with kind of a fan of Ms. Fisher . . . . but at the same time I’ve been a bit disappointed by most of her books. I kept buying them, though, hoping she’d come through with the guilty pleasure-shoveling popcorn in my face story I knew was in her. Bad Mommy was that story.

Meet Fig . . . .

“All of the Lululemon bitches and their coconut water could go to hell.”

I was on board with Fig pretty much from the start . . . . .

She was delightfully fucked up in and totally in denial regarding the fact that . . . .

Especially when it came to the other female lead in our tale . . . .

Oh Jolene . . . .

“She wears things that make the other mothers look, you know? Leather pants, a Nirvana T-shirt underneath a blazer, more bracelets than I’ve ever seen anyone else pile onto their wrist.”

In other words . . . . .

Now, I’ve said a time or two before that Tarryn Fisher has made a habit of writing herself in her stories. Many other authors do this as well, but they generally tend to make my reading experience less enjoyable by doing so. Buuuuuuuuuuut it’s different when Tarryn does it because . . . . .

Anywho, Fig moves next door to Jolene and her husband – for reasons . . . .

“You’re buying a house to be close to a child you think has the soul of your miscarried baby.”

But I’m telling you by the time you get to the end of the book you’ll pretty much have forgotten about that effing kid ‘cause the crazy will take you errrrrrrrrrywhere. You think you’re signing up for a bunch of . . . .

Or a Single White Female rip off, but right when you’re thinking your own quest of finding the perfect gray knee-length cardigan and wedge-heeled booties might be crossing the line to Mean Girl territory . . . .

You start reading about pops of teal and the perfect placement of a “Thug Life” cookbook on Jolene’s countertop that makes you start to question just who is stalking whom . . .

(^^^^Sluttiest chicken ever cooked.)

Totally meta.

Bought with my own money because Santa only left me coal.

HOLY MIND BLOWN.......

What a disturbing, unique, dark, creepy, mind F***k!!

Damn.... this was my first novel that I was able to read from Tarryn Fisher and I'm left speechless.

Her writing is like chicken pox... it's contagious and you REALLY REALLY can't get enough of it. Oh my gosh there isn't anything that I would change about this book. This was fantastic!! Tarryn does an amazing job portraying the three characters Jolene, Fig, and Darius and the 3 different view points from each. I, at first thought Fig was going to be the most disturbing and then we got to Darius and my mouth literally did this "OOOOOOO" as I started reading his perspective. Darius you are one POS lol.

Can I just say holy cow.... gripping, twisted, and so hard to put down!!!!!!

My Goodreads friends please put this on your TBR like NOW ASAP!!! Top read of 2017 for me!!!

AND...... that ending..... it's like a firework going off and exploding! Well, this is just plain and simple go read it bye!!! :)

3.5 stars!

"How can you love someone who, in their essence, was a miserable, destructive wretch? We love ourselves, don't we? We're obsessed with ourselves, in fact. No? What you hate you also value."

This is the second book I've read by Tarryn Fisher (if I don't include Never Never) and it was quite the thought provoking read!

Bad Mommy is the story of Fig, a woman who believes that the soul of her miscarried child is in the body of the daughter of Jolene. Fig begins to fixate on Jolene and her family, even moving next door. At first it's the daughter she wants, but as time goes by Fig turns her attention to Jolene's husband Darius as well.

I think this was a very compelling read, one of those books where I read it straight through and was sneaking it in real life situations where you aren't supposed to read. A part of me was wondering if there were people out there in the world that were really this fucked up, but I also believed it. All three main characters were an enigma, and it was hard to pin them down because their perspective and what they thought of each other were obviously unreliable sources.

Anyways, I really did like this book. Is it my normal go to kind of read? No. But I am still glad I read it. I know Fisher's style is unique, and I went in not expecting rainbows and happiness. But at the end of the day I want finality with the books I read, I want closure. I want my questions to be answered instead of left open. And ultimately I didn't get that from this book. But you know what? That's on me. I'm sure there are so many people who will love this book and if you are curious about it, give it a shot! You may love it.

"She toyed with his loyalty to me by siding with him and painting me as the big, bad wolf. I was starting to wonder who was in control of our lives at this point. It most certainly didn't feel like us."

2 What a perfect fucking family STARS

"It’s just nicer to be crazy than to be unloved."
description

“Humans are monogamous creatures. We stray when our happiness is threatened. Happiness is tied to survival. We feel as if we are failing if we aren’t happy, especially when we open any social media panel and see our friends hashtagging all the good things in their lives. It’s all fake. We are all more in limbo than we are happy.”

Pero creo que ya se enfoco en tratar de ser única y diferente, que ya cayo en sus propios clichés.

Me explico:

"You ever watched a psychopath fall in love? It’s a lot of idealism, drunken emotion, and them seeing what they want to see."
description

"I could be a better you, that’s what it boils down to."
description

"We were products of our earliest experiences, replicating the ways we were taught to love, and fuck, and interact with humanity. Some of us broke free of our pasts; some of us weren’t that clever.
description

"Life was weird; people were twisted. You had to make the best of it, or roll over and die."

En conclusión: espero que el próximo año pueda ver a la Tarryn de la que me enamore cuando leí Marrow.

P.D. Acabo de notar que en la portada aparecen las vías del tren.

"I CAN BE A BETTER YOU."

My very first thought......Single White Female with just a touch of The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, but with its own crazy twists and an end line that will make you stop, take note and question it.

BAD MOMMY is a loony-tunes show of two super-sick and one easy-going character who spend a great deal of time together eating, drinking, texting....some even sexting while getting to know each other's idiocyncracies.

Fig Coxbury....that's her name....is "five layers of rotten". She's a sinister, obsessive, controlling leech type personality that will most definitely creep you out.

Darius Avery....is a needy psychologist who likes extra attention....as you will see, and..........

Jolene Avery....well, she's admired, self-assured, tender-hearted and trusting to a fault, but drove me as batshit crazy as her cohorts with her oblivious, unsuspecting nature. Good Lord!

Well, enough said, you'll have to find out about little Mercy Moon and all the rest of the shenanigans yourself....including the sexually explicit scenes.

My first, but not last Tarryn Fisher read!

There is a reason Tarryn … (wait, what’s her name again?) Fisher is my favorite writer of all-time, and it was further solidified with Bad Mommy.  I’ve read every single Tarryn book this year alone, and I’ve never read anything as deep and soul-stirring as her writing.  She gets to the darkest depths of humanity, slashes it open, and spills it all over the pages of her books.  Nothing can make me question my sanity like a Tarryn Fisher book.  Nothing makes feel understood and not alone like her writing.

“When you live in your own head all the time, things contort.  You have to voice your thoughts so you can know you’re not the only one who’s fucked up.  It makes a big difference to know that.”

I can never figure out where her stories are headed and when I think I have the first thing figured out, she switches gears and I’m in no-mans-land again.  Predictability is an author’s downfall in my eyes.  I remember reading F*ck Love and thinking the whole story was some kind of weird dream, until the very end when I realized it wasn’t.  Marrow was a total mind-f*ck.  Mud Vein was the most one-of-a-kind work of art I’ve ever read.  Don’t even get me started on The Love Me with Lies Series.  A series told from three separate perspectives in three books of screwed-up humans that can’t make a correct decision to save their lives?  I’ve never read anything like it before or since.

Bad Mommy is no different.  The title gives the reader an idea of where we are headed, but once aboard this crazy train, we derail into untamed territory.  Fig Coxbury wants to be Jolene Avery.  She moves next door to Jolene and her family and inserts herself into their life, as a friend.  She needs to be close to observe and glean information for the new “her”. But when does flattery cross over to obsession and manipulation?

Bad Mommy takes readers into the lunacy that is found in female relationships.  Can we really be true friends as women, or is there always an underlying motive?  Can we ever really trust each other?  Why are true friends so rare?

“There were three things that drew women into a hungry-eyed cluster: liquor, men, and gossip.  Gossip was the strongest draw but put all three together and you had a sort of desperate, heated frenzy on your hands.”

People have questioned why a “goody-two-shoes” like me would love Tarryn’s writing.  She has a dirty mouth, one of her books has F*ck in the title for Pete’s sake, and she writes about taboo subject matter.  But like Tarryn, I’m intrigued by the human psyche.  I would love to be able to read people’s minds, simply to better understand what makes people tick.  I feel like when I understand humanity more fully, I can understand God better.  Since I can’t eavesdrop on people’s brains, I have to settle for second best, their censored thoughts in the form of literature.  But Tarryn doesn’t censor.  She gives us everything and then some.  Despite the villainy, she isn’t a heathen, all of the work features an underlying Biblical theme.  Whether in the names of her characters or with direct Biblical ideology. This is one of my favorite things about her writing, trying to find the underlying messages of the story.  I’ll still be reflecting on Bad Mommy for days to come. It’s like a code readers have to unravel.

Her books are addicting, and I’m drawn to the crazy.  Most authors write pristine characters, with shocking good looks, and perfect relationships.  I want none of this.  The flaws Tarryn portrays are real.  People always wonder how she comes up with such developed characters.  As a writer should, Tarryn simply studies the crazy around her and her writing is always so much deeper than any surface-level drama.

Everyone needs to read Bad Mommy.  This book is purely artistic, original, and intoxicating literature. The entire story will leave you guessing until the very end.  The last sentence even made me say “Whoa!” out loud.  I’m still trying to figure out what the heck I read. I’m already bummed I’ll have to wait possibly another year for another book from our Evil Queen.

READ. THIS. BOOK now!

It's even better the second time around. Tarryn is a genius. She put the shit in the pie and watched "Fig" eat it up.

Genre: Fiction/Psychological Thriller
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

Fig Coxbury wanted something she didn't have - the life if a woman with a beautiful child and a loving husband. Her fixation brought her next door as their new neighbor while she slowly wormed herself in.

Jolene and Darius Avery openly welcomed her into their circle. Glad to have new friend, they let her be part of their life until it became too much to handle and risked destroying everything they held dear.

When it was indicated Tarryn Fisher is back to what she can do best, I was excited to delve into her mind. This book is slightly different than what I expected but still has her signature writing that I love.

I wanted to be wanted.

Fig was a fascinating character. I love reading her thought process on rationalizing other's and her own behavior.

I’m not always proud of the person I am, but we all have our struggles.

Darius was equally interesting. Especially considering his career, it made you want to believe/respect his opinion - to a certain point. And it made it even more interesting when the thoughts started to "evolved" in a bigger way.

And there it was, my very own crack. I was looking for the flaws in others and that was unfair when I had so many myself.

Jolene was the catalyst in the story and the one with the most dilemmas to deal with. I like seeing how she saw the world and how she fixed it.

What I like the most about the story is how the characters coped with their situations and I especially love being in villains' minds. However, I felt the first 50% of the book was too slow for my liking. The period of establishing the character went on a little too long without introducing something new.

People didn’t want to hear the truth. They had their ideas and any deviation made them uncomfortable.

Bad Mommy chronicles the lives of three people dealing with obsession and deception. It would appeal to readers looking for a light psychological thriller.

Hop on the Bad Mommy Express

She's done it again. But this time with a new writing style and characters that felt so real that I now look for them while walking down the street. As soon as I finished, I immediately started reading the book again. You will want to pick up Bad Mommy ASAP. This book is unlike anything I've read. This is the story of a woman that wants the life of her best friend. It's realistic, raw and just plain creepy. The last chapter is one of the most powerful chapters I've ever read. So get ready to jump on the Bad Mommy Express and enjoy the ride but be sure to hold on because there are so many twists and turns along the way.

"That's what life was all about. Making others want to be you."
Holy shit, this book was so crazy. This is my first time reading a Tarryn Fisher book and I am so impressed! I was hooked right from the beginning. This is a story that follows Fig, a woman who has become obsessed with this couple: Jolene and Darius and she convinces herself that their daughter, mercy is actually her daughter. She becomes so obsessed with them that she buys the house next door to them and begins stalking them very hardcore. This book is broken down into three parts, and we get different POV's throughout the story. I'm a huge fan of unreliable characters and really fucke dup characters, and this book definitely has all of that.

"Happiness is tied to our survival. We feel as if we are failing if we aren't happy, especially when we open our social media panel and see our friends hashtagging all the good things in their lives. It's all fake. We are all more in limbo than we are happy."

Fig's voice in part one totally reminded me of Joe Goldbergs' voice in You by Caroline Kepnes. She has the same stalker-like creepy narrative that I LOVE. Her perspective is so fucking entertaining to read from, and I actually found some of her narrative to be kind of relatable. Some of the things Fig has to say about society and our world and marriage is totally accurate. I also love that this book takes place in Seattle because I live in Washington, so I knew a lot of the areas she talks about in this book.

"What is love anyway? Most of us had no fucking clue because our parents gave us shit examples of it. So, we flounced around adulthood, taking notes from romantic comedies... or porn."

I don't why I'm just really drawn to stories that involve really fucked up characters, they are just so much more entertaining than the typical protagonist. All three of these characters: Fig, Darius, and Jolene are so incredibly fucked up and strange but it makes this story so entertaining. I literally could not put this book down, I was up until four in the morning reading it last night because it's so addicting, and intoxicating. I also like the very subtle way this book throws plot twists at the reader.

"Life was a microwave and I was a fucking stick of butter."

The ending of this book was so AWESOME and gave me chills. I love when an author can do that with an ending! I super appreciated it, and it was really unexpected and it makes you think. There's a lot of thought-provoking content throughout this book, and I am sure I will be thinking about this story and these characters for many days to come. I am surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read more from Tarryn Fisher!

Holy cow! This book is all kinds of messed up - in the best way possible. I have gobbled up each and every Tarryn Fisher book like there's no tomorrow because her writing is that good! But I have to say, Bad Mommy has taken it to a whole new level. It's captivating, it's disturbing, it's jaw dropping, and it's craziness like you wouldn't believe.

Trust me guys, you NEED to read this one! So go and one-click the shit out of Bad Mommy !

I buddy read this book with these awesome ladies: sis Pearl , Ari, Tika, Blessie, Britt, Kelly and Talina. --> Click their names to read their reviews!

When it comes to raw, twisted and dark stories, you can never go wrong with Tarryn Fisher and Oh. My. God. Bad Mommy is legit shit crazy. The story is about Fig Coxbury who moves in a new home not only to start fresh after her miscarriage but to stalk Jolene Avery and her family. Jolene's life is everything she never had and she wants it really bad. Her obsession becomes more disturbing to the point she emulates her and even seduce her husband.

Each characters have their own surprises and you cannot trust them to be innocent. The Psychopath - She's unreliable, creepy and she seriously gave me chills. I've got to admit, a person like Fig exists in this world and this kind of person might be around you. The Sociopath - Don't get me started on Darius. I'm fooled by his character for thinking he's a kind and loving husband. HE. IS. A. PIG. I'm shocked because I never really thought he's like that. Lastly, The Writer - This is my favorite perspective and that ENDING… Twist out of nowhere! I enjoyed this one the most. Team Jolene ftw!

Diving into the mind of Tarryn Fisher. Holyyyyyyy shit. Seriously so good!

++++++++++

SYNOPSIS IS HERE!!!

"Almost every day is a very bad day when you’re twenty-seven, your tits are starting to sag, there are lines creeping in around your eyes, and you realize that no one would like you if they actually knew who you really were. Fig Coxbury is fed up with her life: her cheating ex-husband, the excess fat around her waist, and most of all, her loneliness.
When Fig chances upon Jolene Avery, the embodiment of everything she’s ever wanted to be, Fig befriends her out of curiosity.
Fig soon begins to emulate all aspects of Jolene's life, because when you find someone who knows exactly who they are, you can't help but want to be just like them.
Or in Fig's case... become them."

I am still trying to think of what to say after reading this book Bad Mommy by Tarryn Fisher it was utterly TOXIC I loved every god damn minute, I wont go into a full summary lets just say the characters were so off the rails was like a train wreck Fig especially was delusional, manic & self absorbed I wanted to kill her with my bare hands.

Then we have Darius he was totally F***** up he totally wasn't the character I thought he was be totally had me gasping for air his wife Jolene was all over he place a bit naïve but likeable.
