Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.

She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

This was my second book by this author and while I didn’t fully love it like the first one, I quite enjoyed it. Leddy Harper delivered a fast paced, gripping, great friends to benefits story that held my attention from start to finish. 'Resuscitate Me' was angty, heartwarming and also emotional with two engaging main characters I found to be well portrayed.

Kara moved to Florida to live with her sister-in-law and help with her nephew for a while. She’s a kindergarten teacher, so she’s free for the summer and spending some time with her family will help everyone in some way since her brother was deployed a month ago. At the local gym, Cara meets a sexy, tattooed, intriguing man who leaves her hot and bothered every time he opens his mouth. Carter is the owner and from the beginning he makes sure he wants Kara. Kara wants Carter as well, a summer fling may be what she needs right now.

Soon, these two start a hot friends/strangers with benefits relationship. Carter makes sure Kara knows that he's not looking for a long-time relationship. He’s busy with his gym and other stuff and they live in different states, so a serious relationship is not exactly what he’s looking for. When their time comes to an end, Kara is not ready to give up on Carter, but he doesn’t seem to want something more with her, so she leaves Florida with a broken heart. What neither of them expects is to see each other again very soon. Something happens and Kara will have to decide if Carter is worth fighting for.

For the most part, I enjoyed this one. I liked how the story unfolded and even how Kara and Carter’s relationship progressed, even if they were frustrating as hell at times. Both Kara and Carter were well-developed, likeable….for the most part, but I have to say there were times I wanted to smack them in the head. They were frustrating as f@ck and their crazy dynamic until some point drove me nuts. As much as I like some back and forth between the characters, here this aspect was a little too much...in many ways for my liking. On top of that, the misinterpretation and also miscommunication one time or two annoyed the f@ck out of me. Needless to say, I didn’t fully connect with neither of these two characters…at least not from the start. Overall, I liked both Kara and Carter. Kara’s confidence was almost missing, but for the most part she was a likeable heroine. As for Carter…ugh…he had a quick temper, he was stubborn, argumentative, but also sweet, caring and thoughtful.

I enjoyed the steam factor here. These two were sexy as hell and the chemistry between them was fantastically done, so personally I wouldn’t have minded the story to be a little steamier.

Overall, a great read!

I loved this book. I am not saying, “Wow, I fell in love with this book” but it is a very well written beautiful love story and I loved it. There is nothing wrong with it, nothing much to criticize about.

Our hero, Carter, is a man of 36 years old who doesn’t date and who avoids serious relationships, partly because of his busy work life and partly because of what happened with his last girlfriend in the past. He is also uber alpha. He owns a gym and he is one hell of a sexy man with a gorgeous body covered in inks. Add dark hair and green eyes to this body. He is kind of irresistible!

Kara is a 25-year old kindergarten teacher. She is visiting Florida to stay at her brother’s house for the summer and she starts to go to Carter's gym. It is where they meet for the first time. It is insta-lust for both of them. But Carter is a very difficult man, who is unpredictable. He is hot now and cold a minute later. He is temperamental. You never know how he will react to what you say. Kara is extremely attracted to him and she tries to deal with his moods while she stands up for herself at the same time. She keeps a good balance.

Finally, they decide to have a summer fling with no strings attached and the rest of the book is steamy hot (and very tastefully written.)

However, what starts as a summer fling brings so many more emotions with the level of attraction they have for each other but Carter is not willing to accept any emotions although she is ready if he were. When she tells him how good a boyfriend he would make if she were to stay longer, he suddenly freezes and puts a distance between them. He insists that they stay friends.

Can they? Can they stay friends?
Of course, they can’t.

And the whole book is based on this pull & push.

Then, they are apart for a while and back together after an incident. A new set of pull and push begins then until they both surrender.

So, there is not much going on other than this slow surrender to their feelings and confessing how they feel for each other. Even though he resists accepting he has feelings for her, his actions speak more than his words and it is heart-warming to see him suffer and ache for her, trying to make her stay by saying other stupid things :)))

The plot line sounds simple but it requires great talent to go with that plot and keep the interest of the reader with every page you turn. First of all, the sexual chemistry between them burns the pages and the angst/tension built because of Carter’s character squeezes your heart.

The book MAKES YOU FEEL every emotion in it. This is “good writing”. Otherwise, with nothing else going on other than their pull and push, it could easily have been a boring book but it is so far from being boring or frustrating. It is – on the other hand - captivating. If you are OK with this plot line and in need of a very hot and emotional romance, you can easily pick this up.

“It’s like you breathe life into me. You take away the pain and give me something I never realized I was missing. I’ve never met anyone like you before. You make me laugh, calm me when I’m fired up, and excite me when I’m down. You resuscitate me when I feel like I can no longer breathe.”

***

“Just breathe, Carter. Focus. Don’t hold your breath; it’ll only trap in the pain. Blow it out.” With each word I whispered to him, he calmed. “That’s it, babe. Just let it go.”
“You’ve never called me that before,” he gritted out with a snarl.
“Do you not want me to call you babe?” His lips brushed against mine and he nipped me gently with his teeth, but his eyes remained closed. “You’re gonna stay, right?”
“Yeah…I’m your problem now.”
He huffed out a chuckle and said, “Then call me whatever you want.”

***

I crossed the room and rounded the bed to stand on his good side. With my hand on his shoulder, I looked into his glossy eyes and asked, “What’s wrong?”
"You weren’t here.”

As you see, it is written in a way that will touch your heart and tug at your heartstrings.

So, why -1 point?

Well, I would have preferred what brought them together the second time weren’t an
That’s why.

Still, worth reading, you should meet Carter :)))

This heroine got me confused.
She said some really mature things, but often did the opposite of it.
Much talk and little action.
She tried so hard not to come across as  desperate and needy, but was exactly this -  desperate and needy, at least at the beginning.
But she grew some backbone later.

The hero pushed her away so hard that his miraculous transformation into the caveman with passionate desire to impregnate her took me by surprise.

If not his accident they would have lived their hea with others, IMO.
Nevertheless the epilogue was cute.

I, even as not a native speaker, know some more proper synonyms for the word c*nt. The hero didn't, unfortunately.

Worst line: "You have things to do and a man to claim."

Holee Shit This Book!
I can't even...

There's no question that I am a huge fan of Leddy Harper. She just had a way with words that really grabbed me and moved me. Her words always held so much meaning and emotions that always struck me right in the center of my heart. So suffice to say I love this woman so dearly and with her current work now she made me love her even more.

Not to be bias but Resuscitate Me is her best work to date. Don't get me wrong, I have loved her books, each held different meaning and each has a special place in my heart and admittedly I am a glutton for punsishment with her every release. I haven't had a book from her that I am not accompanied by Kleenex and wine. That is the usual case but with her new release I tell you this, she upped her game and delivered us a story you wanted to stop reading, hate so much and just throw your reader but then made you want to hug her and kiss her and then love her outrightly. Yes, she astound me with her writing ability in her new work. She gets better and better but this woman is evil in her own ways because the moment I finished reading the book, I realized, she just played my emotions and Kleenex? Yes I needed that one and a clear head because this book tested my patience and emotions but in a good fucking way. And who would have thought, Leddy has a dirty mind behind that angelic and innocent face of her's? *Fanning

Yes, the book is so much I never expected it to be. It's so different from all her other works. Where we usually pegged her books to be so emotional yet romantic, Resuscitate Me is loaded with flirtiness, sexiness, alpha male hotness and so much more. First few pages and you know you're in for a great ride. I was so drawn into the story and I was lost with the words I devoured from start to finish. The character portryal was good. I love that the heroine is not some damsel and distress but someone strong and determine to fight for what she wants. The hero, my God this man is nothing but pure alpha and asshole plus a jerk rolled into one. He was no prince but he's so more than that. In as much as I have loved this character I really wanted to nut punch him and strangle him but then kiss the hell out of him. Don't get me started with the sexual chemistry because it was scorching and downright hot. It will tease you and leave you with warm flushes.

“You’re gonna watch me finger you.” His lips were so close to my ear, the rumbles of his words reverberated through me. “Look in the mirror, look at my hand, feel what I’m doing to you. Don’t close your eyes, because I wanna see them roll to the back of your head when you come. And then… you’re gonna watch me fuck you, and I’m gonna watch you come on my dick."

But both tested my patience with their push and pull and their bickering. I am so mad with their stubborness I wanted to smack the hell out of them. But then, it's their flaws that keeps me going in the story. It's their frustrating ways that leads me to finish this beautiful book. Because in reality nobody's perfect and it's their flaws that made this story relatable and perfectly imperfect. But what I wasn't prepared for is the fact that the book is a definition of "expect the unexpected". Carter and Kara's journey was never easy. The supposed summer of fun, fling and hot sex turned out to be so complicated when feelings got involved. Carter is right, friends with benefits always end up with a broken heart. So why put a label?WhY get feelings involved? Why not just enjoy the company? But then sometimes fate just wanted to itervene. So from summer fling, they went to being in love. But their's is never easy. It wasn't rainbows and hunicorns. And that twist in the story heightened the tension but made me understand why Carter is what he seems to be. That it's more than just him being jerk. That it's more than just the trust issues ansd commitment. This made me even want to root for them and cheer them on. When I get to finish the book it's definitely true, “Love isn’t logical. It doesn’t follow a set of rules or fit inside guidelines. The universal symbol is a heart for a reason. A heart is resilient. You can eliminate some of the electrical currents running through it, segregate and cauterize veins, reroute the electrical currents, and yet it keeps beating. Where’s the logic in that?”

For Kara,
I had it all.
I had the dreams, the hopes, and the desires.
And Carter had given them to me.
He decimated me.
He loved me.
But above all, he resuscitated me.

Have you ever read a book by Leddy Harper ?

No ? well you are missing out on something…

Yes ? well than you can imagine what I went through when I read “Resuscitate Me”

The last book I read by this author was “Lust” and to say her writing style (plotwise) is unusual would be an understatement.

So I had a pretty good Idea of what to expect. And that was basically “expect the unexpected”.

I was not surprised at all that (and now hold on for the explanation) … I really liked the book because I hated the male lead.

That should give you something to think about right ?...

As a reviewer you reach a certain point where you think you read it all. And every new book you encounter is only a variation of something you read several times before. And then comes a book like this.

A book where the female lead seems to be a glutton for punishment.

Where the male is so annoying you want to throw the book out of the window ( haven’t felt like this in a long time – the last guy was Jesse Ward “This Man” by Jodi Ellen Malpas )

And then there is this relationship which you can as outsider only describe as the epitome of toxic. That kind where you expect the selfish streaks of the male lead to turn violent at any minute. Yet it never happens so no worries.

Then I thought ok there must be something behind his behavior and a reason he cannot (as the Blurb says) “reciprocate her feelings” and I was waiting for a revelation of some kind. Maybe that he is somewhere on a scale of autism, something like Asperger’s (because that would have explained so much and would have allowed me as a reader to approach my feelings about him differently).

But it never happened.

And while all this wondering I was still following this story. I could not put it down.

Carter annoyed me to the point of actually hating him.

He was sweet and in the next second the King of Assholes. Then he was confusing, suddenly selfish and the next second I felt so sorry for him.

There where a whiplash of emotions from me for a guy who seemed to be above feelings … until … a certain event … and even then he still remained being selfish, ornery and insulting. I can not remember one point where I could say “I loved what he did” ..

I could not put the book down and was thinking “Who would want that kind of toxic relationship with a guy” he seemed to be a kind of addiction to her.

And somehow I got it … I hated him almost until the very end but still I kind of understood where she was coming from.

Sounds crazy I know but well the whole story was like that so why should I sound any different.

Great Plotline – well written – good job Leddy Harper

Resuscitate Me was a different book for me. I had a hard time getting into it initially, and I'm not sure if it was real life stuff I had going on, or the fact that the main characters made me want to smack them at certain times LOL!

The writing is on pointe and I love that it is not the same recycled plot lines and over story. You get shock value in this tale, for sure. Carter was kind of a dbag... I mean, I get it... but still a dbag. And Kara, I wanted to give her a healthy dose of self confidence and tell her she's amazing! before giving her a swift kick in the ass too.

Yet, even with that said... the story told here, the story of following your heart, even if at direct opposition to absolutely everything else...it's poignant and meaningful and will tug at your heartstrings, even as you want to scold the characters for behaving in ways you think aren't so appropriate.

I appreciate getting an ARC to review in advance of the release day. 4 breath of life stars!

Once again Ms. Harper has caused my emotions to explode all over the place. Kara & Carter's relationship was anything but perfect.

I've got to say that there were plenty of times that I wanted to slap and hurt Carter for his hot/cold attitude, but I knew there had to be a reason he was the way he was. Well, lo and behold, the more I read the more I learned of Carter's past and I felt for him. Oh, and Kara’s past was just as emotional though she has a wonderful support from friends and family who are there for her during her tough times.

Both Carter & Kara agree to keep things uncomplicated and fun thinking that they will be okay to walk away in a couple of months without any type of feelings for one another. But deep down I knew they were both wrong. I loved seeing how, despite how they guarded their hearts, they still shared intimate details of their lives with one another.

As they share with each other, they both realize that there could be more to their fling, yet they keep fighting it. These two had my emotions all over the place and I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it to the end of the book. But I did. There were lots of tears and hiccups - but I survived.

Resuscitate Me is a beautiful story about two emotionally scarred people afraid to love again, afraid to give their hearts to someone else, and afraid to follow their hearts for fear of getting it broken again. But what happens when you allow those walls to come down and let love in? You will have to click to see for yourself. ~ Kara, 5 “Emotionally Beautiful” Stars

Cater & Kara

I found Carter to be sweet, caring and an all-round good guy, though I wasn't a fan of his short temper.

Kara was also sweet, and her willingness to put everyone else first is admirable but I felt like she did it because she lacks some confidence. She seemed to always second guess herself.

I really liked the meeting between these two, and how their relationship grew from lust, to more than lust to friends then to lovers.

Of course there were circumstances that brings a little drama but I found that the most dramatic parts of the book were from Kara. I think because of the lack of confidence in herself she was a little dramatic at times when an easy conversation would have cleared up a lot of things.
Add in Carter's short temper and this book is anything but boring. ;)

I very much liked the way Carter was when he was with Kara’s nephew. That just melts a girl’s heart.
I loved the ending. I think the story took us on a ride and we just had to go with it.

The narration, Tor’s voice is like warm syrup all yummy and gravely it’s perfect for Carter. And though I sometime have a hit or a miss with the female narrators I have to say I really enjoyed Charley’s female voices. She made Kara, Kara for me.

This was a first by Leddy Harper for me, and I can say I would totally listen to more of audiobooks by this author.

SG Ladies....this one's for you ;)

I liked the angsty back and forth between the H/h. I was absolutely ecstatic that the h wasn't a doormat and didn't roll over and take the H's hot/cold routine without complaint. While I'm not totally sure the "why" the H was so hot/cold was explained...I didn't care. I was just super stoked the drama wasn't centered around the usual OW/OM bullshit.

So why 3 stars?

I liked the H because he was an asshole who redeemed himself just enough...my GR buddy Val and I share this trait. We love assholes....there, I said it. I loved the h because she took no shit. Not once. But the shrugging thing, I call bullshit on her reasoning for that. The writing was excellent and I'm reading another of Ms Harper's books next because her writing is so engaging. BUT, I needed a bit more plot and a bit more explanation for the plot that occurred to bump this up to 4 stars.

... Meh.... that's it Meh.

Their journey from friends with benefits to love was very disjointed I felt

I skimmed cause I lost interest a few places.

Ps: I felt disconnected from the h. The H wasn't drool worthy or whatever, but I don't know .... I felt hard connecting to the h and her thoughts if that makes sense. I didn't like how she treated her sister in law in the beginning. Didn't like the immature comments she made in the beginning. She's meant to be 25 years old. I'm 22, and I was rolling my eyes at some things she said like when she accuses him of lying to her to get her in the gym alone when she was the one who propositioned him. Or when she made the comment he must have a girl every day of the week even tho he just said he's not into that.

I think this was used to cause arguments but there are more mature ways to spark one.

I liked some parts. I liked the beginning and was captivated then. I lost interest after

So, it's been a long time since I've read or listened to a single POV book. I didn't realize I was getting myself into one, but I almost didn't notice due to the excellent narration. Two narrators, each reading their respective characters. It made the story so much more. I liked hearing Carter Hastings. I liked hearing the dirty things he had to say. So, thank you Tor Thom, for an excellent male narration. And Charley Ongel, great as always.

Now, the book.

I'm a big fan of seeing things through. This book is one of those things I saw through till the very end. I made the point about a single POV earlier because I feel like this story could have been so much more if we knew what Carter was thinking. His behavior was all over the place, his attitude, the way he would get upset if our heroine wasn't where she said she'd be. He seemed to have a lot of insecurity issues.
There were several times when this annoyed me. When he turned cold and distant, I wanted to know why. I could only guess as to the reasons behind his actions, but if I had been Cara, I'd have walked.

Am I glad I finished the book? Yeah. I actually enjoyed it once they pulled their heads out of their asses. The characters were believable. They had their own flaws, they had their own issues, and they fought through those to be together.

Overall, 3 stars. I liked it, but it didn't pull any huge emotion from me.

Leddy? Seriously? What a mind f*** this book was. Holy crap! Carter! Not in my wildest dreams could anyone but you write this man. Holy hell, one minute I want to throat punch him, the next I want to hug him. Kara, a little retiring I'm going to call her. These two can't clearly communicate to save their lives and it's a wild ride. You read the blurb, so I'll be brief. Kara is spending the summer helping care for her nephew while her brother is deployed; living with her sister in law, also her best friend. Kara meets Carter at the gym after climbing a rock wall and she faints. Literally. While she's climbing though he's flirting with her like a mad dog. I'd faint too. This guy would make your pants melt even if you weren't wearing any. Jeezus. He runs hot and cold with her, throughout the book, one thing I'll say for him he's consistent. She reads into everything he says, which makes for interesting dialogue with a man who isn't used to talking much. The sex is over the top smoking, this alpha plus man will ring your bells and more.
But this book is so much more than that... it has dips, twists and turns. It'll gut punch you, and make you smile. But see that's Leddy. It's what she's good at. She puts you on the ride and you can't get over until the ride is over.
I read this book in one sitting. Yes it's that good and you don't want to put it down.
Must read. It deserves more than 5 stars. As always, she's outdone herself.

Couldn't relate to the characters

I would not typically review a book I DNF, but I just have to give others a bit of a warning. I simply could not relate at all to either the H or h. And they we're both rather unlikable. I can accept (somewhat) when the hero starts off as a jerk, but It's hard when the heroine is also annoying. She was unclear and often uncommunicative (who shrugs in response to a direct question unless you actually don't know the answer?!?). I made it to 30% and was done. Kara once again answering the door to Carter with 'What are you doing here?' As opposed to 'Hello. It was like she was never actually happy to see him...or happy at all.

This story is magic; the character's relationship dynamics suck you in and entangle you in their passion. It's gripping and I was always wanting to know what happened next: never a lull in the story. It hot, sweet, and spicy all rolled into one.

4 star Review Resuscitate Me By Leddy Harper
Audio Review:
Leddy Harper is a relatively new author to me, however I have listened to several books narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel.
The duet narration from Tor Thom and Charley Ongel was good and enhanced my enjoyment of the story as they blended and played off one another so well.
This was a well written story that had me interested from the first to the last chapter. The characters were strong and I found them easy to relate too.

What a garbage!
Heroine was a weak, stupid woman.
Together they didn't have any good communication. I don't see this couple for many years together, huh.

Hero cold and hot... Tiring !!

Didn't like this story. This author could do better.

Resuscitate Me was the 5th book that I read by Leddy Harper, but has always been one of my favorites. The first two chapters of the first meeting between Kara Carter (age 25) and Carter Hastings (age 36) is so entertaining that I found myself wanting to read the entire book in one sitting. In fact I am reading the book again right now. She is a kindergarten teacher visiting her sister-in-law for the summer. She is rock climbing in a gym owned by Carter, when she falls head over heels (literally) in “lust” with him. She actually faints in embarrassment and can't even correct his false impression that her name is Kara, not Tara. Once he says that Tara was a beautiful name, she wanted to change her name. Lets just leave it at they both made a lasting impression on each other, and I highly recommend reading this book. Fate has brought them together, but with a limitation on their time together. Carter decides they should have a “friendship” but no “relationship.” Well, then he decides a friendship with benefits! Fate is not through with them yet. When their time limit comes to an end. How can you desert someone when they “resuscitate” you? When you feel like you can no longer breathe without them.

I want to start by saying that I love Leddy Harper as an author. She has totally blown me away by some of her other pieces. (Eminent Love) If you plan on reading Resuscitate Me and have never read her other books, please do not judge her as a whole solely off It.

This was something totally different from Leddy than I had ever read before.. The misunderstandings, assumptions, and argumentative nature of both main characters would lead any rational person to quickly end things.. Carter and Kara just couldn't stop. At first I thought they just were both glutton for a punishment. Midway through I thought I couldn't read any longer and had to set it down for a few days.

The aggressive nature of Carter almost seemed borderline abusive. Kara seemed like she got a thrill out of making him angry. I would say that it wasn't until 65% that I actually could get into the book and see some glimmer of hope for them.. that's pretty far in. The writing was on point and the story grabbed me. My problem was mainly not loving the main characters together or alone. The end was sweet but I wish I could have seen more glimpses of that throughout the book.

Communication, communication, communication! That is the running theme through out this amazing and emotional book. Carter Hastings a man that will steal you heart and wet your knickers with just a glance has his heart set on Kara, but his hot and cold way of winning your heart is what will have you yelling at your e-readers and books. You have been warned...
Kara a young woman who is just looking for a summer fling, well, not really looking. When she sees Carter for the first time, yeah she began to dream of a fling.
But when flings get started and communication or rather miscommunication make them second guess what they are doing , what could be a HEA could blow up in their face.
Follow your heart and all will fall into place. When they finally put that theory to work is when they realize that they were the ones getting in each other's way.
Hot and sexy back and fourth these two will entertain you and keep you glued to the pages of the book. Making you blink twice when you realize that you have come to the end and simply just want more of Carter and Kara. Perfection!

🥱😴 I usually don't fall asleep while reading books but 'Resuscitate me' was an exception.
I love books with angst, push and pull because they are exciting to read and are not bland at all but this book was so boring .. All the couple did was fight, fight, fight. I think they were not well suited together, the hero was big jerk with an ego problem and the heroine was a needy, desperate person who always whined about stuff.

Didn't like it at all however this is completely my opinion. Maybe other people will enjoy it. 🙃

This book was amazing. Leddy always seems to pull every emotion out of you when you read her books. I loved Kara and Carter. There are times you want to smack them both, but in the end there is happiness. This book is filled with humor. It's always refreshing to read a book with an HEA. But much more fulfilling when it's against the odds. Leddy is a very talented author and I will continue to read her books.

Who ever said, "Don't judge a book by its cover," never read Resuscitate Me.
Not only does this book epitomize Leddy Harper's incredible writing style but the sex scenes are off the charts hot!!! There is a fantastic level of raunch that is perfect for the reader who needs an escape from the everyday. Carter Hastings is the bad boy with a heart. One you will fall hard for in Resuscitate Me.

I fell in love with Carter instantly! This story kept me hoping for my own private beach trip with his beautiful, tattooed body glistening next to me. You won't be able to put it down!! Leddy creates the most beautifully sexy stories EVER!! Do NOT miss this book!
